Kitchen equipment to come in handy for royal cake

Royal wedding fever has gripped the nation since the announcement last year that Prince William is to wed Kate Middleton. Keen attention is being paid to every detail of the ceremony, which is to take place on April 29th.

Recently, it was revealed that a group of chefs from Wales are to use their kitchen equipment to bake the all-important wedding cake for the happy couple. The cooks are from the Welsh National Culinary Team, which is sponsored by a range of organisations, including the Welsh Assembly Government, Hybu Cig Cymru/ Meat Promotion Wales and Villeroy and Boch.

Recently, the gastronomic experts used their catering equipment to good effect in Luxembourg, winning a gold medal at the Culinary World Cup.

The team was granted permission to bake the royal wedding cake after manager Graham Tinsley extended an offer to do so.

Commenting on this, he said: “I wrote to St James’s Palace on behalf of the team in December to congratulate Prince William and Kate Middleton and offered to bake a wedding cake when the wedding was announced. We are delighted and honoured that our offer has been accepted.

“With Prince William being stationed on Anglesey with the RAF search and rescue team and, apparently, gong to live in north Wales with his bride following the wedding, I think it’s fitting that Welsh chefs should cook a cake for them.”

He went on to note that the team, who may begin using their kitchen equipment to get the cake started soon, have not yet finalised the decoration they will create. However, they know it will be traditionally Welsh and will probably contain dragons and other such emblems of the country.

It was not revealed where the preparations will take place and where the catering equipment that will be utilised for the undertaking is based.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the home, being a functional space where culinary masterpieces are created and having another use as a social space for entertaining or interaction.

Choosing the right kitchen to reflect your cooking requirements and the style of your property is vital, as the kitchen is a room where you are likely to spend a lot of time in and can add considerable value to your property.

As well as choosing paint colours, units, sinks and accessories, perhaps the most pressing ingredient to consider when designing your new kitchen is worktops. Depending on your cooking and entertaining balance, it is better to choose a worktop that can fulfil your requirements, whilst looking stylish in your kitchen.

Stone kitchen worktops are perhaps the hardest wearing of all work surfaces and as such are favoured by avid cooking fans. Popular stone includes granite, marble, slate and quartz. Such materials can give a high shine, expensive look to any well-designed kitchen. In addition to an opulent feel, stone worktops are durable, hard wearing and water resistant – the most well known of these being granite worktops. Hampshire residents to Leicestershire inhabitants can easily obtain stone worktops as they are widely available across the UK from bespoke suppliers to DIY stores.

For an industrial look, in a modern apartment or architect designed property, stainless steel work surfaces can provide a professional and bright theme – think stark white combined with a metallic and glass finish. Water resistant and incredibly durable, stainless steel worktops are favoured by professional chefs – do be sure to use a chopping board however, as they can be easily scratched.

Those who enjoy a more rustic country kitsch theme, will perhaps appreciate the natural beauty of wood worktops. With its anti bacterial properties and large range of colours and types of wood, such worktops are popular in large family kitchens. To prevent drying out, it is prudent to proof work surfaces annually – protecting against damage from spills.

The Benefits of Oak Kitchen Cabinets

Oak kitchen cabinets will be a great addition to any new or existing one. Many homes are made with a lower grade wood for the cabinets simply because of the builder wanting to save a little money. While these cupboards might be purposeful, over time, they will simply not outlast the natural durability of oak.

They provide the room a look and feel of home with a quiet beauty that’s unsurpassed by other woods. One of the first things a new home buyer looks at is the kitchen cabinets as a buying point as to how much storage room they supply and the material they are created from. By putting in oak cabinets, you can increase the resale value of a home and impress potential buyers.

Oak kitchen cupboards are popular not solely for their sturdiness, but also for their flexibility. The wood is robust and will last for several years of daily use. An oak grain pattern is sort of unmistakable and typically features knots and pits as a natural characteristic of the wood. Before purchasing from a manufacturer, customers will typically request a sample of the wood, as well as finish or paint chips.

A small palm or orbiting sander will be a godsend during this process. This permits the surface to be prepped after stripping with minimal effort. No one wants to sand that much surface area by hand, and these little sanders make to job move right along.

There are several ways to bring a kitchen up-to-date without creating major changes like adding oak kitchen cabinets, replacing appliances, or laying down a brand new floor. A fresh coat of paint can usually brighten up a space at a minimal cost. Homeowners can conjointly spruce up a kitchen by adding crown molding, buying new kitchen furniture, or upgrading lighting fixtures. Ultimately, creativity is crucial when attempting to save money during a kitchen remodel.

Styles of Distressed Kitchen Cabinets

A well-designed, welcoming, and functional kitchen space can be attained with the use of distressed kitchen cabinets. These cabinetries have lavish and layered finishes and wood edges that make the wood looked aged or old. You can order distressed cabinetries or if you are a DIY person you can distress the cabinets in your kitchen yourself, which is a more economical alternative.

This article will guide you if you choose to use distressed kitchen cabinets as an addition to your kitchen and home style.

Kinds of Distressing

There are many types of distressing. The most used of all are crackle, rub-thru, and natural wood. Crackle distressing showcase a cracked look showing the bottom layer of paint on the upper layer of the cracked paint. Rub-thru makes the bottom layer of paint apparent at wear spots, corners, as well as peaked areas. Natural wood, on the other hand, leaves the wood unfinished while the little filmy topcoat is applied for protection.

You can also make use of styles such as wormholes, cow tails, chain dents and dings, and fly specs. These styles correspond to their names. Wormholes mimic the holes and hoops created by worms or larva. Fly specs on the other hand are dispersed spots that give the impression made by real fly specks. Cow tails present comparable look to fly specs but the designs are arched. Chain dents and dings are very small indentions that demonstrate standard wear and tear theme.

Another great look of distressed kitchen cabinets is the worn corners. This design has corners sanded to provide a worn effect.

Take a look at pictures of these styles online for a point of reference, whether you are purchasing kitchen cabinets with a distressed look or making them yourself.

Which is Right for You?

Choosing the best distressed look for your kitchen should be based on your taste, your kitchen size, as well as your current home dcor. When youre already decided about the distressing style that fits your preference, you can purchase pre-distressed cabinetry or distress them yourself.

The good news is that do it yourself distressing is not difficult. In reality, the most complex part is deciding the distressing style that complements your kitchen and what hues and finishes match it.

There are several methods to distress. Essentially, you must sand the wood material and put several color or paint layers. You should then remove the paints top coat to expose the original colors. Use drill holes to perfectly obtain the wormhole effect. Use chains, keys, and other objects with sharp edges to distress your cabinets. When trying to achieve a wear corner, use sand paper and rub the corners and edges of the cabinets.

If you want like to buy distressed kitchen cabinets instead of making them, visit a local customs cabinet maker in your area. Most of the time, you can ask them to distress your cabinets as per your specifications.

How to choose a kitchen worktop

It’s always great to look at the variety of worktops and what the advantages of them are. In this article we will like to look into 3 worktops and see how they compare with one another.

Stainless steel

When looking at a worktops it’s good to think about the use and the environment around it. If you have young children then you are more likely to take something more resistant.
Stainless steel is ideal for our OCD driven hygiene freaks. Its a great surface which can be cleaned very easily. The worktop is hard and the best thing is the easiness of the clean. Stainless steel does however scratch across time but none can deny it looks really good.

Hardwood

Best used: Always best used for our chefs and cooking maniacs. Its ideal for cooking purposes. Also if bought with water resistant quality then can become very handy in and around sinks and areas which deal with oil.

Best look: Best thing is it suits all kitchens. It looks greatif mixed with a few materials such as glass or stainless steel.

Upkeep: Maintenance of this is slightly harder. If something spills you have to be pretty quick to clean up otherwise it may leave a stain.
Sealing required: These hardwoods need to be painted with a special oil to start with and then one coat every month at least. This has to become a habbit otherwise you can say good bye to your hardwood.

Durability: Hardwoods can last a long time but you will have to apply that oil. Also dont use it as a chopping board or put a hot pan on it. These surfaces can get scorched very easily.

Flexibility and fitting: The best thing about hardwood is its flexibility to fit perfectly in any shape. Make sure the carpenter is correct though.

Granite

Best used: Used on surface worktops. The shiny glossy look has proved very popular in recent times.
Best look: Its a granite worktopsat its best. It suits every look, call it modern or traditional. The worktop has been described as timeless.
Upkeep: Maintenance out of all the surfaces is the best. Get a damp cloth and wipe away. Its that simple.
Sealing required: You would apply a sealer first time when putting it on and another one after 10 years.
Durability: Out of all the surfaces it is the best in durability. It can with stand heat and is water resistant. Wine and citrus must be wiped away at once though.
Flexibility and fitting: Granite again is very flexible. It is cut very easily into any shape or size.

Planning a bespoke kitchen design – some more unusual things to consider

For a keen cook, a shiny new bespoke kitchen design is one of the most rewarding gifts you’ll ever give yourself and your family. The kitchen is usually the heart of a home and in this article we’ll look at some ways to get the kitchen of your dreams.

Before starting, one extremely important thing to remember is cost. It’s very easy for kitchen projects to spiral out of control. Whether you’re rebuilding or renovating a room there are always hundreds of small expenses you never even thought of when you were in the planning stage. While some of these costs are unavoidable, there are ways to keep the price down, afterall there’s no reason why the price of your dream kitchen has to be a nightmare.

Once you have assessed your kitchen needs and decided how you want to go about executing them, it’s time to put pen to paper and start designing your new kitchen. Kitchens can come in all shapes and sizes, from galley kitchens to octagonal round house kitchens. You should remember that the same cabinets, appliances and surfaces can look entirely different in someone else’s home than in yours.

Standard stock cabinets can be given a unique look with virtually unlimited specialty finishes including brushed steel and gloss. If your budget can stretch to custom cabinets, your choices are almost unlimited.

Worktop materials already come in a great array of choices, but they can be customized even further with special routing or inset bands of another colour or material. If you’re short on storage space you could have a granite worktop cut to incorporate a built in chopping board. The same goes for flooring where you could have marble tiles interspersed with oak floorboards, walls and furniture. So even if your kitchen is small and ordinary, you can still have a bespoke kitchen design.

To create a distinctive and stylish kitchen , your first move is to decide where the focal point of the room is. A large window, alcove, or long wall are all common options. If you have the space, you should also consider an island. A kitchen island can be a cheap and attractive way to expand your work area. An island can also allow you to add a second sink, dishwasher or oven to your bespoke kitchen design. If you add under floor wiring, plumbing and gas lines, the possibilities for an island are endless. Just about any appliance can be located in an island if the plumbing and electrics are planned properly. A wine rack, a gourmet wine chiller, an under-cabinet fridge or concealed bin are all options that can help free up storage space and also give your kitchen a unique look.

How much does it cost to remodel a new kitchen

Kitchen renovations can cost you varying from $2,000 to $3,000 for a cosmetic renovation without any new cabinets, plumbing or electrical changes. Expect to spend at the least $10,000 when you choose brand new low-end cabinetry, counters, appliances, flooring, paint, and a few minimal structural alterations. However, the skys the limit in terms of a whole new kitchen’s and you will probably pay $10,000 or more for prime quality pantry shelves, custom work and many upgrades.

Always keeping costs down You will find ways to cut costs when modernizing your kitchen without having to sacrifice quality. Regardless of what you do budget, do not skimp on design, kitchen appliances, or labor. These are the actual basis for a practical cooking area and you should get the best you can afford. And keep expenses to a minimum, use stock cupboards instead of customized work, laminates instead of solids, and hang on your present home equipment, if you can. Also try to keep your existing plumbing and electrical and dont make architectural modifications to the space. Planning ahead in detail will also help you save money. Any adjustments or modifications midway throughout the process will be expensive. Resurface or repaint old cupboards Paint is relatively cheap that will transform wooden cabinets in a matter of hrs. Try a fresh painting method, or a textured look, or a zesty mixture of colours. You can also re-establish older cupboards with wood laminate floors, or one of the fresh, non-traditional plastic-based materials that resist cracking, denting and yellowing. Formica countertops, for example, provide the appear and feel of expensive good surfacing at about half the price.

Utilize more glass Replace several cabinets along with glass ones. Glass and mirrors in a room add the illusion of more space, as well as glamour in particular when you add interior lights to your new cupboards.

Improve your hardware Simply adding new cabinet and drawer handles can modify the perception of a kitchen! Using the many options in colour, size and form of drawer knobs and handles, theres no limit to what you can achieve.

Floor and wall facelifts Paint, wallpaper and flooring in a number of textures, styles, colours and patterns can easily spice up a bland kitchen. Stencil a border around a window, below a ceiling, or between the cupboards plus the counters and you’ll alter the mood overnight.

Be innovative The best kitchen should not only look fantastic, but endure daily wear and tear. It should function well and enable people to maneuver freely between it and related areas of the house.

If you are planning to completely remodel the kitchen, be honest about your ability. You might want to leave this important job in the hands of an expert who can do the work quickly and professionally. A kitchen designer/contractor can suggest unique ideas and construct creative ways of particular problems. Finally, make sure you get at least two bids for the work you plan to do and compare these carefully.
